Animal Hospital, Gurugram

The veterinary hospital at Gurugram, done for a Japanese client, brings in a fusion of Japanese and Indian design thinking to create a design scheme that uses a modernist approach with a neutral colour and material palette, which is best suited for small animals, who are the prime customer of this clinic. Taking a fresh perspective to ergonomics, and understanding how spaces to suit humans as well as small animals are designed, the project is a story of continual learning that an architect constantly needs to undertake. Space planning to suit Indo-Japanese fusion way of working, negotiating with the tight constraints of land and its rentals, allowing for maximum natural light to penetrate into the interiors, adopting a mix of vernacular and modern construction techniques, and incorporating state-of-the-art MEP systems form the key concepts for the building design.
